EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES

UTILIZING CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY TO HELP YOU FEEL YOUR BEST

OFC has been the leader in orthopedics in Southern Minnesota since it’s inception in 1957 and is committed to staying at the forefront of orthopedic care by continuing to offer cutting edge and innovative emerging technologies to deliver the best outcomes possible for our patients.

EXACTECH GPS GUIDED PERSONALIZATION SHOULDER REPLACEMENT

Exactech is the first and only shoulder navigation technology that connects your surgeon’s preoperative plan with real-time intraoperative instrument guidance to verify implant placement. ExactechGPS software combines our surgeon’s expertise with this cutting edge system when performing a shoulder replacement. The goal – improved accuracy and precision. Surgeons are able to devise their surgical gameplan based on a 3-D anatomical model of the patient’s shoulder allowing for the most precision for proper placement and alignment of the implant which is critical to garnering the best outcomes for the patient post-operatively.

MAKO SMART ROBOTICS

The Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic was once again at the forefront of bringing cutting edge technology and services to our region by partnering with River’s Edge Hospital to bring Stryker’s Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery in December of 2019 and as a result was the first critical access hospital in southern Minnesota to offer this technology.

The Mako Total Knee application is a knee replacement treatment option designed to relieve the pain caused by joint degeneration due to osteoarthritis. Through CT-based 3D modeling of bone anatomy, surgeons can use the Mako System to create a personalized surgical plan and identify the implant size, orientation and alignment based on each patient’s unique anatomy. The Mako System also enables surgeons to virtually modify the surgical plan intra-operatively and assists the surgeon in executing bone resections.

“With Mako, we can provide each patient with a personalized surgical experience based on their specific diagnosis and anatomy,” said Dr. Kyle Swanson of The Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinic. “Using a virtual 3D model, Mako allows surgeons to create each patient’s surgical plan pre-operatively before entering the operating room. During surgery, we can validate that plan and make any necessary adjustments while guiding the robotic-arm to execute that plan. It’s exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology across the joint replacement service line to perform total knee, total hip and partial knee replacements.”

ARTHREX VIRTUAL IMPLANT POSITIONING SYSTEM (VIPTM)

What is the VIPTM system?

Before surgery, your surgeon will request a CT scan to get detailed, two-dimensional pictures of your shoulder.

They will then use an advanced software, Virtual Implant PositioningTM (VIP) system, to create a three-dimensional image of your shoulder and virtually perform your operation.

This exercise helps ensure your diagnosis is accurate and the best implant for  your specific shoulder is selected.
