BACK CARE CENTER AT OFC
Specialized Physical Therapy for Chronic Neck and Back Pain
The Back Care Center at OFC offers a unique subset of Physical Therapy designed for individuals suffering from chronic neck and back pain. Our focus is on improving strength and flexibility by isolating the muscle groups that support the spine, helping patients achieve long-term relief.
The Back Care Center was the first comprehensive neck and back program in the United States. Remarkably, 70% to 80% of patients who complete the program report good to excellent results. A key component of this success is the use of the MedX machine.
What is MedX
MedX machines are specially designed to isolate, safely test, and directly strengthen spinal muscles. The program also integrates general strength and fitness-building activities, supervised by licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to ensure patient safety and progress.
MedX helps combat and reverse the deconditioning effects of chronic low back pain by isolating movement and applying the principles of progression and overload in a controlled environment.
Why Does MedX Work?
When pain affects a specific region of the body, the neuromuscular system compensates by adopting new contraction patterns, often bypassing the injured muscle. This compensation can lead to further weakening and atrophy of the affected muscle. Effective rehabilitation protocols, such as those using MedX, prevent muscle alienation and re-train the neuromuscular system to function correctly.
Over 70 clinical studies and medical journal articles have validated the effectiveness of MedX machines in:
Significantly reducing spine-related pain
Restoring spinal function
Improving quality of life and independence
Reducing or eliminating the need for ongoing pain management
MedX Medical machines are considered the “Gold Standard” for non-surgical treatment options for low back and neck pain.
Program Goals
Improve range of motion
Strengthen spinal muscles
Decrease pain
Restore normal function
Back Care Center Program Overview
The program involves visits twice a week for a minimum of 6 weeks to observe initial strength gains. Most patients complete the program within 9 to 12 weeks, requiring 18 to 24 visits to achieve maximum benefit.
